Description

This handmade clock has a dial coated with crushed obsidian powder. It is a transparent light gray color and sparkles depending on the light environment.
Obsidian is a black natural glass formed when magma suddenly cools and hardens. It has been used as a cutting tool since the Stone Age because of its extremely sharp cross section when broken. When broken into small pieces, it becomes a light gray powder, which gives a very different impression from that of the original stone.

The body of each Hanamokko table clock is hand carved on a lathe using a traditional technique called rokurobiki in Yamanaka, Kaga, Ishikawa. Yamanaka has a more than 400-year history as a lacquerware production center. The wood is Zelkova, which has a beautiful grain and smooth texture. Please select one of the three available colors from the Wood Color option: Plain, Brown, or Black.

The base of the dial is made of Japanese paper made by Mayumi Ishikawa, a Japanese paper maker in Futamata-cho, Kanazawa. The paper is then coated with layers of iwa-enogu, mineral pigments made from crushed natural stones. The index is made of gold leaf produced in Kanazawa by traditional methods registered with UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage.
