Description

The dial is coated with iwa-enogu made from crushed sugilite. Sugilite was discovered by Professor Kenichi Sugi in Japan in 1943. It is the only gemstone to be named after a Japanese person. Please enjoy the gentle, transparent colors and the rough texture specific to iwa-enogu, that ordinary paints cannot produce.

The body of each Hanamokko table clock is hand carved on a lathe using a traditional technique called rokurobiki in Yamanaka, Kaga, Ishikawa. Yamanaka has a more than 400-year history as a lacquerware production center. The wood is Zelkova, which has a beautiful grain and smooth texture. Please select one of the three available colors from the Wood Color option: Plain, Brown, or Black.

The base of the dial is made of Japanese paper made by Mayumi Ishikawa, a Japanese paper maker in Futamata-cho, Kanazawa. The paper is then coated with layers of iwa-enogu, mineral pigments made from crushed natural stones. The index is made of gold leaf produced in Kanazawa by traditional methods registered with UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage.
