Description

This is a specially designed table clock that combines dark blue mineral pigments and platinum foil to represent the moon.

For mineral pigments, I applied heat to the “natural ultramarine” made by crushing a mineral called azurite to dull the color a little and give it a calm dark blue color.
It is a very expensive paint that has been used in Japan since the Asuka period 1400 years ago. In the Edo period, it was traded at a higher price than pure gold.

For the silver part, pure platinum foil is pasted using the same method as the table clock sold as “Surihaku”, and the surface is intentionally blurred a little to create a calm and elegant impression without being too glaring.

The indexes, or dots indicating the time, are baked ultramarine for the part with platinum foil as the base and platinum foil for the part with a baked ultramarine base, and the design has both ease of time and overall cohesion. It is a table clock that boldly combines natural baked ultramarine blue with the highest quality traditional material of platinum, making it look like an object.

The body of each Hanamokko table clock is hand carved on a lathe using a traditional technique called rokurobiki in Yamanaka, Kaga, Ishikawa.
Yamanaka has a more than 400-year history as a lacquerware production center. The wood is Zelkova, which has a beautiful grain and smooth texture.
